Smuin Contemporary Ballet has launched "Smuin al Fresco," featuring fresh programs highlighting Smuin Songbook favorites and an unveiling of all-new dancer creations.

Prerecorded at an outdoor venue, each program stars a different pod of Smuin dancers performing highlights from founder Michael Smuin’s canon of classical and pop favorites, playful solos from “The Tempest,” an excerpt from choreographer Trey McIntyre’s “Blue Until June,” and more.

“Smuin al Fresco” is slated to run through May 30.

“Pod Iris” will be streamed 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 5 p.m. Sunday. It features Smuin artists Tess Lane, Max van der Sterre, Tessa Barbour, Brennan Wall and Ricardo Dyer showcasing a variety of Michael Smuin favorites, including a duet from “Fly Me to the Moon” and a solo from “The Tempest.” It also includes new dances choreographed by Barbour, van der Sterre and Wall.

The final offering, “Offstage/Onscreen 2021,” will be streamed 7:30 p.m. May 27 and 5 p.m. May 30. The program unveils new dance films choreographed, danced and recorded by Smuin’s artists in outdoor settings around the Bay Area.

Each stream will be followed by a live Q&A with the pod’s featured dancers.

Tickets are $25 per program or $75 for all four.
