Pear Theatre’s 2021-2022 season continues with a co-production with the Perspective Theatre Company (formerly the Arabian Shakespeare Festival) of plays rescheduled from last year.

In its first Pear Pairing, Pear presents the West Coast premiere of Marisela Treviño Orta’s “Somewhere” and William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” in repertory. The co-production is slated to run through Oct. 24 at Mountain View’s Pear Theatre.

“Somewhere” is a new piece that explores the consequences of neglecting the environment. With almost all the insects gone, the world is beginning to fall apart as crops fail and people struggle to hold onto their ways of life. Cassandra and brother Alexander are tracking the last monarch butterflies in the world as they head west. Their path intersects with a truffle farm, where a small group of people are hunkered down bracing for the collapse of society.

“‘Somewhere’ is a stunning piece of theater,” Perspective Theatre Company actor William J. Brown III said. “It is one of the only plays I have ever read the first time and said, ‘This is it,’ and no longer was considering any others.’”

Brown plays Corin; the cast also includes Tim Garcia (as Alexander), Livia Gomes Demarchi (Cassandra), Jose Antonio (Eph), Gabriella Goldstein (Sybil) and Isabel Siragusa (Diana). John R. Lewis directs and Joanne Martin provides costumes.

Running in repertory, “The Tempest” was one of Pear’s most successful previous productions from its 12th season. The play also explores humanity’s dependence on its own contrived way of life, and the way people either fall apart or come together when thrust into a new and unfamiliar environment. Pear will use a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic of magical happenings on a desert island and long-awaited justice delivered.

The cast includes Arcadia Conrad (Prospero), Cat Bigelow (Miranda), Kyle Dayrit (Caliban), Muse Lee (Ferdinand), Asha Kelly (Ariel/Trinculo), Max Koknar (Stephano), Francheska Loy (Alonso), Peter Ray Juarez (Captain/Adrian/Francisco), Carl Erez (Sebastian), Tyler Paranoia (Gonzalo) and Lisa Burton Guevara (Antonio). Melinda Marks directs; Marisely Cortés Fonseca provides costumes.

For both productions, Kelly Weber Barraza stage manages, Ed Hunter designs lighting, Charlie Hoyt provides sound design, Kevin Davies serves as set designer and Sinjin Jones handles projections.

“Somewhere” is scheduled 7:30 p.m. this Thursday, 8 p.m. Fridays and 2 p.m. Saturdays.

“Tempest” is slated 8 p.m. Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21.

The Pear Theatre is located at 1110 La Avenida St.

Tickets are $20-$42.
