Local golfer makes U.S. Senior Amateur
Golfer Michael Staskus of Los Altos has qualified for the U.S. Senior Amateur, scheduled Aug. 28 through Sept. 2 at the Detroit Country Club in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Staskus qualified Aug. 9 at The Valley Club of Montecito in Santa Barbara, where he placed third with an even-par 72 after capping his round with a birdie. The U.S. Senior Amateur will have a field of 156 golfers, all age 55 or over. According to the United States Golf Association, which runs the tournament, 2,565 players attempted to qualify this year.
LACC golf tourney tees off Aug. 30
The 31st annual Los Altos Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament is scheduled Aug. 30 at Los Altos Golf & Country Club, 1560 Country Club Drive. Registration runs 10-11 a.m., as does the putting contest; lunch is at 11:30 a.m. and shotgun start at noon. Registration for the scramble-format event is $395 per golfer, or $1,400 per foursome; cost includes golf cart, lunch, refreshments on the course, team photos, giveaways, prize tickets, entry in the putting contest, cocktail-hour drink ticket, dinner and awards.
