Kevin Raftery – owner of the Los Altos-based Kevin Raftery Horticultural Services – is scheduled to discuss “Planting for Privacy: Successful Plants to Use for Hedges, Screens, Espaliers and Vines” 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto.
The class will focus on the use of plants to create aesthetically pleasing private outdoor living spaces.
Raftery’s presentation will include advice on selecting species that thrive in different types of growing conditions, pruning maintenance, common problems to avoid and installing creative trellising structures for vines.
Raftery has been involved in horticulture for 43 years and has taught horticulture classes at Foothill College.
Cost is $20 per person for members, $35 for nonmembers.
Gamble Garden also will offer a free class on how to grow and arrange evergreen plants 10-11:30 a.m. March 10. Pre-registration is required.
