In April, Los Altos Hills resident Ginger Summit will teach several gourd craft classes at Filoli in Woodside for adults and for adult/child pairs working together. Summit is the author of "The Complete Book of Gourd Craft" and the newly published "Gourds in Your Garden." The adult classes are scheduled for April 1 and 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The adult/child workshop is Saturday, April 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. For registration fees and more information, call 364-8300, ext. 508.

Garden tour gems to be presented

Ed Carman of Carman's Nursery in Los Gatos, will show slides and discuss "20 Years of Garden Tour Gems" at the April meeting of the Western Horticultural Society, 7:30 p.m., April 8 (doors open at 7 p.m.) in the Loyola School multipurpose room, 770 Berry Ave., Los Altos. There is no charge for the program and visitors are welcome.

'Three Seasons of Filoli' slide show, discussion

The Menlo-Atherton Branch, American Association of University Women will present Kerry Higuera, a docent at Filoli, in a slide show and discussion of the Filoli mansion and gardens 10:15 a.m., April 14, in the lower meeting room at the Menlo Park Public Library, Ravenswood at Alma in Menlo Park. Members of the public are cordially invited to attend. For more information, 323-4066.

Foothill Men's Garden Club sale

The Foothill Men's Garden Club plant sale, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 17 and 18 at Rancho Shopping Center, will offer succulents in miniature rock gardens, Carl Nelson's from-seed tomato plants in five varieties, hanging baskets, herbs, iris, and many flowering plants and vegetables, all grown with loving care in home gardens. Free expert advice will be given at the drop of a hoe by member of the club.

All proceeds donated to ornamental horticulture scholarships at Foothill College and other horticultural projects.

Rancho Shopping Center is located at Foothill Expressway at Magdalena-Springer Roads in Los Altos.

'Charming Cottages' of Palo Alto

The Palo Alto Area Mills College Club presents its annual "Charming Cottages of Palo Alto" house tour this year on April 17 and 18. Tickets are $20 before April 10.

To order, send checks payable to PAAMCC and mail to: 1234 31st Ave., San Mateo 94403; please include a business-size stamped self-addressed envelope.

Ticket orders received after April 10 will be held for you at 1850 Middlefield Road, where tickets can also be purchased (for $25) on the days of the tour.

Annual iris show at Gamble

The Westbay Iris Society's 20th annual iris show will present many different varieties of iris in full bloom and members will offer advice about cultivating irises in the home garden on Sunday, April 19 from 1-5 p.m. at the Elizabeth F. Gamble Garden Center, 1431 Waverley St., Palo Alto. Admission is free. For information, call Diane Y. Eigenman at (510) 657-7242.
