Wedding To Remember

Ice sculptures offer really cool way of topping off your wedding

By Coralie Rogez / Special to the Town Crier

In addition to the flowers, the cake, the band and the new trend of releasing a pair of white doves into the air, couples are faced with the choice of incorporating ice sculpture into their wedding celebration for a special touch.

The San Jose/Palo Alto Ice Company, located on South 10th Street in San Jose, provides a variety of ice sculptures for weddings throughout the Bay Area.

Ice Company offers clients ice sculptures from its portfolio as well as custom-designed sculptures, such as the one on the company's Website of a couple's initials inscribed in a soccer-game scene.

The Ice Company has been open for 30 years.

Artists use electric chainsaws and chisels to carve their creations.

"Ice sculptures are nice because they can go in many different areas, such as the foyer, the buffet tables or they can serve as centerpieces," said manager Joe Sarabia.

A standard ice sculpture costs about $300 and lasts 5-8 hours indoors.

"Although its purpose is more of a decoration, it can still have a special meaning behind it," Sarabia said.
