Pack your bags: Mtn. View Senior Center offers travel opportunities near and far

The Mountain View Senior Center is partnering with Kanen Tours to offer a big lineup this summer, fall and winter, with options ranging from day trips to California attractions to adventures in New York, New Mexico, Costa Rica and Europe.

• 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 1: Summer of Love with Gary Holloway. Participants will tour San Francisco’s “Summer of Love” sites and visit the California Historical Society exhibition “On the Road to the Summer of Love.” The trip includes transportation from the Senior Center, museum admission and lunch in San Francisco.

Pop-up parties: Club 55 gathers seniors for drinks, snacks, conversation

Visitors who stroll onto the back patio of the Costume Bank on State Street may find themselves guests at a pop-up party.

Club 55 social gatherings are open to anyone age 55 and up, and it’s unlikely that those a year or two shy of that would be turned away.

Getting the goods: Delivery services offer alternatives to in-store shopping

For seniors and others unable to make it to the grocery store, another option is available – delivery. Online giants such as Amazon and Google offer such services, as does grocery chain Safeway. Draeger's Market, located in Los Altos on First Street, operates a delivery service locally.

On the road again and again and again: Retirees offer tips for enjoying RV travel

Retirees Jean and Gary Blackburn drove their motorhome to Alder Lake, Wash., in June to attend their granddaughter’s graduation.

Embracing the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote “Life is a journey, not a destination,” Gary and Jean Blackburn love to get in their motorhome and hit the open road.

“Once you get out of the city, it’s like a neverending, page-turning (issue) of National Geographic,” Gary said.

Senior Program Briefs

The Los Altos Senior Program is located at Hillview Community Center, 97 Hillview Ave. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays.

The Grant Park Senior Program is located at 1575 Holt Ave. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
