Chamber of Commerce Mountain View recognized professional women making a difference at the 23rd annual ATHENA Award and the fifth annual ATHENA Young Professional Award ceremony and luncheon Thursday.
Jessica Nowaski, a captain with the Mountain View Police Department, received this year’s ATHENA Award. The organization honored Davida Brooks, marketing coordinator of Sum of All Numbers, with the Young Professional ATHENA Award.
“These women embody the highest levels of professional excellence in their professions, have devoted time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community and both actively assist women in realizing their leadership potential,” Chamber President Oscar Garcia said in a statement. “We are honored to have them in our community.”
Nowaski has been with the Mountain View Police Department since 1995 and has served as a field training officer, detective, hostage negotiator, bike patrol officer and peer counselor. She also served as commander of the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force. She is currently a division captain overseeing investigations and youth services, among other duties. She is active in the community as a member of the Mountain View Rotary Club and a volunteer in local schools.
Brooks works for Sum of All Numbers, a Mountain View-based business providing bookkeeping, payroll and controller services to small- to mid-sized businesses.
“I am driven by a desire to make a difference and empower people,” she said.
Chamber of Commerce Mountain View, with help from local sponsors, awarded $15,000 in scholarships to 10 students from Foothill and De Anza colleges as well as graduating seniors from the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School District. Scholarship winners included Guadalupe Berrospe, Andres Cuenca, Jessica Fernandez, Luis Gonzalez, Dafne Hernandez, Trang Le, Marco Martinez, Rose Martinez, Stephanie Yau and Binh Nguyen.
