Food Brief

Village shares its harvest

Village Harvest, a nonprofit volunteer organization, harvests fruit from private homes and orchards in Los Altos and donates it to local food banks.

Founded 12 years ago, the organization has tripled in size in the past eight years and harvests approximately 250,000 pounds of fruit annually. Village Harvest has six community teams that span as far as Davis, in addition to thousands of registered homeowners and volunteers.

The organization just concluded “Apricot Madness,” its annual scramble to pick as many apricots as possible before they fall to the ground.

To register to help in a harvest, visit villageharvest.org/events.
