The holidays bring opportunities for criminals on the hunt for packages left on doorsteps. To thwart thieves, the Mountain View Police Department recommends that homeowners invest in security cameras.

The holiday season – when porch pirates are most active – is just around the corner. Home security cameras are one option for protecting delivered “booty,” but not all systems are optimally set up. Last week, the Mountain View Police Department shared tips to help area residents.

“One of the most common questions we see from our community is about home security cameras, particularly when it comes to tips on what kinds of cameras to purchase or where to place them,” MVPD spokeswoman Katie Nelson wrote in a department press release.

A sham email sent to downtown Los Altos businesses offers to sell information on people who visited the Los Altos Farmers’ Market.

An email advertising the sale of a database of information on approximately 5,000 people who attended the Los Altos Farmers’ Market circulated among Los Altos-based businesses last week, but the solicitation appears to be bogus.

The person who distributed the message – identified as Smitha Thomas in the email – is in no way affiliated with the market or its sponsor, the Los Altos Village Association, according to LAVA executive director Scott Hunter.

Three people sustained minor injuries after two vehicles collided at the intersection of Miramonte Avenue and Covington Road in Los Altos Sunday afternoon (Oct. 27), according to the Los Altos Police Department.

According to his 2017 obituary in the Town Crier, the late William Roman put down roots in Los Altos after moving his family around California and abroad to accommodate his studies and subsequent career changes. He built a home on Hawthorne Avenue in 1964, where his family has lived ever since.
