Mountain View Police Department detectives seek the public’s help to learn more about a visiting church missionary recently arrested in connection to a suspected child pornography ring that played out over Facebook.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims who interacted with suspect Hayden Hunter, 19, online or in person during his stay in the Bay Area.

Following a months-long investigation, MVPD officers on March 4 arrested Hunter in Fremont on suspicion of child pornography and distribution of child pornography, according to a department press release. Although Hunter is from Pleasant Grove, Utah, he was living in Mountain View while stationed in Fremont as a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionary.

A tipster in September notified MVPD’s cyber detectives about Hunter’s participation in a private Facebook Messenger group related to child pornography distribution, according to the release. The group included some members as young as 13 years old.

“Our investigators did a phenomenal job working this case,” said Lt. Frank St. Clair, according to the release. “Their diligence and tireless efforts to stop this predatory behavior are commendable.”

Anyone with pertinent information about Hunter and the criminal case against him is encouraged to contact MVPD Sgt. Tim Dahl at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
