Eitan Weiner, the former Los Altos High School student who died mysteriously at a Stanford fraternity house in January, died from an accidental opioid overdose, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday (Feb. 26).
Following an autopsy, the county’s Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office determined fentanyl toxicity caused Weiner’s death, according to a Sheriff’s Office press release.
Deputies on Jan. 17 responded to Stanford University’s Theta Delta Chi fraternity for reports of a medical emergency, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Officials pronounced Weiner, a 19-year-old sophomore at the school, dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation revealed no signs of foul play.
Weiner, the son of two Stanford employees, graduated from Los Altos High in 2018. According to a statement from Stanford, he planned to major in history and was noted for his interests in politics, current events, soccer, hip-hop and rap.
