David Clark Loudy

Dave Clark Loudy 011520 onlineDavid Clark Loudy passed peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December 10, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 73 years old. David was born on January 19, 1946 in Oakland, CA to Marjorie Wise Loudy and Francis Howard Loudy. He was raised in San Leandro, CA and attended San Lorenzo High School, graduating in 1963. After graduating from Cal State Hayward in 1968 with a degree in biological science, and a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America in 1969, David went on to have a storied career as one of the most trusted and well-respected jewelers in the Bay area. After working closely with his father Francis Loudy and other family members at their jewelry store, Loudy's Jewelers of San Leandro, CA, David joined Gleim the Jeweler in Stanford, CA in 1969. David enjoyed a 50-year career at Gleim, training under legendary jeweler Art Gleim and serving as Vice President and principal gemstone buyer for over 30 years. David was a Certified Gem Appraiser as well as a Past President of the Northern California Guild of the American Gem Society.

John Leslie Sly

John Sly 011520 onlineJohn Leslie Sly devoted father of three sons and loving husband of Pauline Sly passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2020 with family by his side. John is survived by two children Michael and Jonathan, daughters-in-law Belis and Brigitte, and grandchildren Fiona, Keira and Derin. He lost his youngest son, Anthony on July 31, 2012. John also has a half-brother, David Sly living in London, England, where John was born on September 28, 1929. John met Pauline in Derby, England and they were married in 1957. They eventually immigrated to the United States via the steam ship Liberte in 1959 and settled in Hingham, Massachusetts a suburb of Boston. While on the East Coast, John worked in media sales companies and also co-owned an art gallery in Hingham, the Bare Cove Gallery which Pauline helped to manage. John was a painter in his downtime and had a very good eye for local artistic talent displayed in the gallery. Sons, Michael and Jonathan were born in Massachusetts and the family enjoyed their time there until relocating to Los Altos, California in 1970.

Patricia Ellen Chay

Pat Chay 011520 onlineJune 16, 1953 - December 10, 2019 Resident of Los Altos Patricia Ellen Chovanec was born in 1953 in Oakland California. No one could pronounce her last name correctly so in 1975 she married Thomas Edward Chay and traded it for another last name that no one could pronounce correctly. Pat had several phases in her career, but her favorite was the many years she spent as a librarian for the Mountain View Los Altos school District. Her health forced her to resign from that job in 2011, Otherwise she probably would have still been doing it last month When you think of Pat you think of sewing. Teaching sewing classes, teaching her grandchildren to sew, making clothes, quilting, embroidering, shirts for many, but with matching underwear only for her husband Tom.

Jim Hoffman

James Hoffman 011520 onlineJames Edward Hoffman, age 80, died December 27, 2019 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer disease. Jim was born the son of Gilbert and Margaret Hoffman on December 13, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio. Jim enjoyed living in Los Altos Hills where he moved in 1972. He was actively involved in the local horse scene supporting his wife and daughter's endeavors. He was also a regular at the Starbucks at Rancho where he had his daily coffee before walking his corgi. He volunteered his time at Fremont Hills Country Club where he served on the Board and as Chairman. Lastly, he spent many of his weekends following local sports where you would find him in the cheap end zone seats at a Stanford football game or listening to KNBR radio. Jim graduated from St. Edwards High School in Cleveland, Ohio and then attended University of Michigan where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
