Suzanne Whealan

SuzanneWhealan onlineSuzanne Whealan, age 57, passed away peacefully at home on March 4th following a long battle with cancer. Suzanne was born in Palo Alto and raised in Los Altos. She graduated from St. Nicholas Catholic School, St. Francis High School and earned a Certificate of Achievement in Child Development from De Anza College. Suzanne cared for hundreds of children in her long career in childcare, and she loved her work. She kept in touch with many of the families for years, following the babies she had cared for into adulthood. In recent years, Suzanne spent many hours as a volunteer in the American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop in Los Altos, and was honored to be the Outstanding Volunteer in 2018. She enjoyed the comradery of the other volunteers and workers at the shop, and the social opportunities with customers. Her homemade cookies were a staple at the counter for years and appreciated by all. Suzanne was a doting and devoted aunt to her niece and seven nephews, whom all agree that Suzanne was their first best friend. She was a loyal and loving daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many, and she will be sorely missed by us all. Suzanne was preceded in death by her father, Dick Whealan, and her sister, Lorraine Davis.

She is survived by her mother Fran Whealan of Los Altos, her brother Richard Whealan with nephews Graham and James of Seattle, Washington, her nephews Marc and Adam Davis of Arcata, CA, her sister Carolyn Andersson with husband Christer and children Linnea, Sven, Niels and Torsten of Monterey, and many cousins, aunts and uncles. Arrangements will be private. Donations in Suzanne’s name may be made to American Cancer Society or to Truck of Love Ministries – information at [email protected].
