Beatrice J Teer

BeaTeer onlineBorn Beatrice Joy Gabriele January 31 1929 in Chicago Illinois, passed away at her home at The Terraces in Los Altos June 26th 2020. Bea grew up in Chicago and attended University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she received a degree in Art. She worked at Stouffers Restaurant to pay for college. She produced and sold beautiful pottery while living in Old Town, and taught at the Art Institute. In 1954 she met and married Donald M Teer Jr. In Chicago. In 1957 they drove West for Don to start a career with Hewlett Packard and raise a family, settling in Los Altos California. They had 3 children, Paula, Lisa and Mac. Bea taught art classes as a substitute teacher in Los Altos, a lifelong passion most recently teaching watercolor and oil painting at the Terraces.

She founded the Sunporch Antiques in 1976 in a small space on a parking plaza in downtown Los Altos, expanding in 1984 to Main Street Antiques, which she operated as a successful business for 25 years. She co-founded California Country Antiques show and sale, a popular event first held Under the Oaks at History House then at Hillview Community Center. She participated in numerous antiques shows across the country and was widely respected as an expert in American quilts, folk art and primitive furniture. After Don passed away in 1989, Bea moved into a beautiful Spanish style house in Old Los Altos where she had many dear friends, attended Foothills Congregational Church and hosted memorable parties, then moving to The Terraces in 2017. Bea loved travel, cooking and entertaining, playing canasta with “the girls”, her wine, playing Words with Friends, iPad art, shopping, collecting and painting. She often spontaneously made up limericks describing favorite people and places with a sly wit. She loved spending time with her 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, whom she is survived by, along with her 3 children, her sister Gloria and numerous nieces and nephews. A woman of easy style and grace, Momma Bea will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. As she requested, a Celebration of Life memorial event will be held outdoors at Shoup Park in Los Altos, at a future date when large gatherings are once again permitted. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society: or Los Altos History Museum: VISIT HER ONLINE MEMORIAL PAGE: to leave tributes, stories, memories.
