Robert (Bob) Burke Lewis died Tuesday, April 17th. He was born June 9, 1935 in Santa Barbara, CA to Robert and Bonita Lewis. Bob grew up in Seattle, WA in the Madison Park neighborhood and graduated from Garfield High School. As a youth he excelled in mountaineering and downhill skiing. He attended Stanford University where he rowed crew, earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (’57) and master’s degree in business administration (’59). After a long career in the semiconductor business in Silicon Valley, he retired and lived in Los Altos Hills. Bob enjoyed the outdoors his whole life. He loved to hike, ski and bike. In addition, he enjoyed running and competed in many marathons, including 10 consecutive Big Sur marathons. Bob was a member of Bridges Community Church, the Harvesters Life Group and SIR Branch 35. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly. Bob and Bev enjoyed many trips around the world.
They also liked to camp, fish, visit the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, OR, and host family and friends at their vacation home in Sunriver, OR. Bob continued his love of travel and the arts in his final years with his friend Lorraine Oleynik. With her by his side, he was even able to make one last trip just two months ago for a family wedding. To his last day, Bob fought to keep his strength and was always optimistic. Bob is survived by his four children from his first marriage to Joan Kuckenberg Green: Hank Lewis of Fox Island, WA, Kathy Bixby of Granite Bay, CA, Mike Lewis of Palo Alto and Brian Lewis of Meadow Vista, CA. He is further survived by three step-children, Chris Gallegos of San Jose, Michael Robles of Baltimore, MD and Andrew Robles of Boise, ID and fifteen grandchildren. A memorial service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at the Bridges Community Church located at 625 Magdalena Avenue, Los Altos on Friday, June 7th at 11am. In addition a private memorial for family and close friends will be held in Sunriver this summer to scatter his ashes in the place he loved the most.
