Marilyn Claire DeBusk

Marilyn Claire DeBusk online 041719August 2, 1925–March 25, 2019 Marilyn Claire DeBusk, longtime resident of Los Altos, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2019. She was 93. Born Aug. 2, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., Marilyn was the oldest daughter of Dr. Dwight and Cecelia Hughes. She grew up in Fairbury, Neb., and graduated from Fairbury High School, where she and her husband, Lawrence, were high school sweethearts. Marilyn earned her BS and RN degrees in 1948 from the University of Nebraska (Omaha) and worked at Omaha’s University Hospital. She and Lawrence married in 1948.

After raising five children, she was a medical office assistant for 9 years. She was a member of the Nebraska Nurses Association, California Nurses Association, and Women’s Auxiliary to the Santa Clara Medical Society. Marilyn was known for her devotion to family, her resiliency, her beautiful smile, and her tenacity for life. She loved growing roses, and was a master of Midwest cooking, known for her legendary fudge that she shared with family, friends, and the family dog. She is survived by her daughters Nancy (Don) of San Diego, Calif., and Sharon (Tom) of Tucson, Ariz.; her sons Steve of Santa Clara, Calif., Jim (Tracey) of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Bob (Cheri) of Santa Clara, Calif.; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She is pre-deceased by her husband Lawrence, of Santa Clara, Calif., her parents Dwight and Cecelia Hughes, and her sister, Phyllis Ray and husband Richard Ray. Private interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Los Altos. Donations can be made to the El Camino Hospital Foundation at 2500 Grand Road, Mountain View, Calif. 94040.
