Dorothy Theresa Guest Benes died peacefully on November 19, 2018 at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights, Illinois after a long illness. She was born on November 7, 1932 in the mining town of Montreal, Wisconsin and was the fourth of five children born to Arthur and Evelyn Guest. After graduating from high school, Dorothy attended community college in Ironwood, Michigan. In 1956, she visited California on vacation. She loved it there so much that she moved to Los Altos, California and continued her education at Foothill College. Following college, she worked at the Philco Ford Corporation as an executive secretary and administrator for over forty years.
In April 1959, Dorothy married Wensel (George) Benes. They had two children, Nancy (Keith Footlik) and David and two grandchildren Richard Watson and Michael Footlik. Dorothy was an active member of the Los Altos Historical Society, serving as president. She was also active in the Los Altos Presbyterian Church. Dorothy was an avid traveler. She and George enjoyed traveling with their children and also during their retirement years. She traveled extensively throughout the world, including Europe, Australia, and China. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her sister Jean and her brother Donald. After her husband's death, she moved to Arlington Heights to be nearer to her sister. Dorothy is survived by her children and grandchildren, her sister Ardel, brother Jim, sisters-in-law Kitty, Arlene and Marie, and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was a friendly, kind and out-going person, and she will be missed by her family and many dear friends. As per her wishes, her body was donated to medical science and there will be no services.
