Carol Phy

OBIT Carol Phy online 0102191931-2018 Carol was born to Harold and Marie Bunce in Pasadena CA August 21,1931. She met her future husband Bill at a New Year’s Eve party in 1953, they were married a short time later. Together they raised two children Linda and Scott. In 1962 Carol and her family moved from their home in Southern California to Los Altos Hills where she continued to live until her recent move to the Terraces in Los Altos. At her home in Los Altos Hills Carol pursued her love of cooking, gardening and canning surrounded by many animals; cats, dogs, chickens, horses, rabbits and a “damn” duck or two. Carol was affectionately known as “deer grandma” for the many deer that frequented her yard. It was her challenge to maintain her yard and keep the “damn” deer out of it.

Carol began volunteering at the Children’s Health Council in the early ‘70s which became a life long commitment. She was active in many capacities at the Health Council. Carol could be found at her beloved Bargain Box in Palo Alto every Thursday up until recent years. The cookbook she co-wrote for the Children’s Health Council was one of her proudest accomplishments. Carol is preceded in death by her husband Bill. Carol is survived by her loving family daughter Linda Winterbotham, son Scott Phy ( Mary), grandchildren Kyle ( Kristen ), Juli, Paul ( Lauren ), and Neal Winterbotham, Laura and Thomas Phy, great-grandson Max Winterbotham. The family is planning a celebration of Carol’s life with good food, good drink and Dixie Land Jazz to remember Carol’s life well lived with spunk and passion.
