Hildegarde R. Allebaugh, the mother of longtime Los Altos Hills resident Gay Krause, died peacefully Nov. 9 near her home in Lake Barcroft, Falls Church, Va. She was 107 years old.
Mrs. Allebaugh was born in Warsaw, Va., March 16, 1911, to William and Effie Rose Rock.
Her early life was shaped by her participation at Beulah Baptist Church in Warsaw. She attended Warsaw High School and upon graduation moved to Charlottesville to work for the Virginia Electric and Power Co. She met her husband, Robert O. Allebaugh, in Charlottesville at the power company.
The Allebaughs moved to Alexandria when they were transferred by the power company. They had their only child, a daughter, Linda Gay Allebaugh Krause, in Arlington late in life.
In 1952, couple bought the first lot in Lake Barcroft, where they built a home and raised their daughter. Mrs. Allebaugh lived until her death in the family home.
The Allebaughs enjoyed travel, bridge, boating and playing golf together. Mrs. Allebaugh’s hobbies also included gardening and knitting. She was an active member of Annandale Methodist Church.
Mrs. Allebaugh was preceded in death by husband Bob; sisters Viola, Mary Evelyn and Virginia; and brother W.B.
She is survived by Krause and son-in-law L. William Krause, niece Faye Fager and nephew Bill Bryant.
Mrs. Allebaugh will be buried in the family plot at Beulah Baptist Church in Warsaw.
