Rose Maria Ruiz de Zuniga Joss Winkleman

OBIT Rose WinklemanRosa Maria Ruiz de Zuñiga Joss Winkleman was born on July 5th, 1934 in Tampico,Tamaulipas, Mexico, the second oldest of five children. Her brother Rodolfo, who preceded her in death and her sisters were Betty, Ileana and Marisa. She met John Joss in 1959 in Houston, Texas, and the couple married in the cathedral in Tampico on April, 23, 1960, with a much cherished Papal blessing. Their first daughter, Diana was born in February 1961 in San Rafael. After a brief period in Washington, D.C., the three returned to California, living in Palo Alto. Their second daughter, Lisa was born in 1962. They purchased a house in Los Altos that year, with daughter Alexandra joining the family in 1967. 

John and Rosa lived in Los Altos Hills for many years. They were divorced in 1982. Rosa Maria met and married Richard Winkelman, the couple lived happily in Los Altos Hills until her death.  Rosa Maria was strong and loving, devout in practicing her faith, generous to many charities and dedicated to her daughters. She celebrated her Mexican heritage by sharing her early life with her daughters, Lisa, Diana and Alexandra.  They spent many summers in Tampico and Mexico City.  She studied Art at Foothill College and worked as a graphic artist at a number of Silicon Valley technology companies.  She gave her time and energy to the Peninsula Volunteers, Poor Clare Collentines of Los Altos and the Pan American Round Table.  Through her, we learned the meaning of love, devotion and sacrificial giving.   Rosa will be missed by her family and friends.  She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Diana (Bob), Lisa (James), and Alexandra and her 5 granddaughters, Lauren, Ryann, Erin, Lucie and Sophie.  She will be missed by her family in Mexico.  A mass and reception will be held in her honor on August 9th, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Nicholas Church, 473 Lincoln Avenue, Los Altos 94022.
