MARION HACKLEY

OBIT MarionHackley

Formerly of Los Altos and Mountain View, CA.

Age 91, Marion died on Monday, February 5, in Chelsea Michigan. Born July 20, 1926, in Mineola New York, to Louis Seel and Emma (Schulz) Seel, immigrants from Germany.

She was a proud graduate of Cornell University in 1946. In 1948 she married George Hackley, an electrical engineer, and moved to Redwood City, CA, for his job with Varian Associates, one of the first electronics firms in what is now Silicon Valley. They settled in Los Altos, then a village surrounded by orchards, and had three children, Laura, Robert (Bob), and Brian.

She was a long time member of Christ Episcopal Church. She enjoyed gardening and was a great cook. In 1968, she went to work for Wells Fargo Bank, where she saw the rise of women in the workplace and the rise of high tech in the Valley. In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at El Camino Hospital, traveling, and visiting her family.

A great sadness was the passing of her son Bob to a brain tumor in 1997. In 2013, she moved to Chelsea, MI, to be closer to family.

She leaves Brian (Wendy) Hackley of Seneca, SC, Mary Hackley of Edmonds, WA, Laura (Clifford) Craig of Ann Arbor, MI, grandchildren Steve (Jennifer) Hackley, Paul (Cori) Craig, Julie Craig, and great-granddaughter, Lilian.

Donations in her memory may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 1060 Border Rd., Los Altos, CA, 94024.
