OBIT IreneArbanas

Irene (Renee) Adele DeMersseman Arbanas was born September 2, 1919 in Clarkfield, MN.

She was the daughter of Earl and Clara Irene Jertson DeMersseman. She died peacefully in her sleep March 21 at the age of 97 in Salt Lake City, UT where she had moved 3.5 years ago to be close to her sister and family. She lived in Los Altos for over 60 years. She loved the Los Altos Union Presbyterian Church, Lydia’s spa, the Milk Pail and her many friends. She cultivated a beautiful garden with flowers, herbs and fruit trees. For Renee, there was no better place to live than in Los Altos.

Renee graduated from the University of Minnesota in Home Economics. She married Walter Andrew Arbanas on December 26, 1954. Together they raised two children, Phillip Andrew and Pamela Jane. She was a fabulous cook, and with her husband enjoyed hosting many dinners for friends and family. They also loved to travel. Renee had many stories of trips to France, China, Norway, Fiji and New Zealand.

Renee was preceded in death by her husband and two children. She leaves two beloved grandsons, Robert Canton of Belmont, CA. and Daniel Canton of Redwood City, CA. She is also lovingly remembered by her cherished sister, Wanda Whiting, Gina Arbanas, and many treasured nieces and nephews. She was much loved. A celebration of her life is being planned for summer in Salt Lake City where both Renee and Walt will be laid to rest.
