OBIT BertonStephens

Resident of Los Altos

Bert Stephens, a respected and retired electrical engineer and inventor in Silicon Valley, died on June 14. He was 75.

Bert was born and raised in the Punta Gorda area of Florida. He came west in the Navy and met his future wife Jackie in San Francisco. Bert graduated from SFSU with a BS in Engineering. The couple moved to Los Altos where they have resided since; last year they celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Bert was active in R&D with many firms in the area, including Dynatel, KLA Tencor and Bloom Energy and had several patents. He was also part of the emergency response team at KLA. Bert was very active in the community, especially through scouting and church; he also enjoyed wilderness activities.

Bert is survived by his wife Jackie, children Jennifer, Walter and Jonathan and their spouses, and grandchildren Nolan, Devin and Joseph. He will also be missed by a very large circle of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 1:00p.m at Good Samaritan United Methodist Church in Cupertino.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Nature Conservancy, 201 Mission St. 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105.
