OBIT MichaelDougherty

Michael James Dougherty, 49, ended his eight-year battle with cancer on January 21, 2014, surrounded by his family and close friends.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Jennie, daughter Charlotte Hope, parents Joyce and Dennis Dougherty, mother-in-law Sonja Perry, sister Shannon, brother-in-law Peter Bartlett, and nephews Jake, Sean and Erik.

Mike was born in Sacramento on January 12, 1965, raised in Mountain View, CA, and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1983. He earned a B.A. in Political Science from UC Davis in 1987 after which he built a successful career in the financial sector including becoming a lead partner in Envoy Capital Investments.

Mike was an avid sports fan and participant. He competed in basketball, swimming, football and running, completing many marathons.

For the last decade Mike’s truest passion was his family. Encouraging his wife through career changes, they moved back and forth across the country, making lifelong friends along the way, and ultimately settling in Seattle. The last six years were devoted to his inspiration, Charlotte, to whom he wrote and dedicated a book: With Hope, Anything is Possible.

After his diagnosis, Mike spent countless hours speaking on behalf of cancer survivors. He educated and inspired many more through his blog, possiblewithhope.com.

A celebration of life service will be held at United Methodist Church in Los Altos, California on Saturday, February 15th at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mike's honor to The Bush Lower School Music Program, 3400 East Harrison Street, Seattle, WA 98112 or the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation, P.O. Box 442 Needham, MA 02494.
