Los Altos Resident for 49 years

Beloved husband of Nina Ruth for 57 years and father of Linda, Sharon and her partner, Levi Fontaine, Lori and grandfather of Simon Puckett, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21 at the age of 86.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1927 to Wanda and Martin Stone, and was the beloved brother of Beatrice Halpern.

A member of the United States Army in World War II, he served this country as a medic. He graduated from Northwestern University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.

He joined Del Monte Corporation as a chemical engineer, serving as Manager of Environmental Protection. Retiring after 32 years, he became a consultant and volunteer science teacher at area middle schools.

Herb most enjoyed travel, tennis, and bridge with the friends and family who so enriched his life. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and especially by his beloved dogs, Lucy and Sidney.

The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate staff at the Palo Alto VA Hospital’s Hospice Care Unit.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or any charity of your choice in memory of Herbert Edwin Stone.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
