Dr. Kansky was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 3, 1927, to William and Stella Kansky, their only child. He died July 3, 2013 in Los Altos, CA. He earned a Bachelors from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio in 1948, a Masters in Biochemistry from Bowling Green University, Bowling Green, Ohio in 1950 and a Medical degree from Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1954. He completed his internship at San Francisco General Hospital and served as a physician in the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, Germany until 1958. He went to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI to complete a residency in psychiatry until 1961. After working several years at the VA Hospital in Menlo Park, CA, he went into private practice in Los Altos California where he continued until his retirement. He taught at Stanford University and served as chief of El Camino Hospital Dept. of Psychiatry from 1970 – 1971.

He served on numerous committees including for the American Psychiatric Association-APA, Santa Clara county alcoholism advisory board, and chairman of physician support at El Camino Hospital.

Awards he received include recognition for significant contributions to psychiatry by the APA January 1992, outstanding contributions to the Santa Clara Medical Association June 2004 and 2009, Committee person of the year 2007 for dedication to the national ethics committee, and recognition by the APA in Jan. 2010 for 50 years of service.

He married first, Joan Lanthier of Pompton Plains, NJ by whom he had two daughters, Karina, and Susan Kansky Lumb. In 1966 he married Jacqueline Pearl Fixler, adopting her three children, Claudia Kansky Peterson, Matthew Kansky, and Craig Fixler. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years Jacqueline, five children and nine grandchildren.

He was an accomplished wood sculptor and cabinet maker and enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, Jackie. He was a devoted husband, and loving father, and will be greatly missed.
