Noteworthies: City of Los Altos wins financial reporting award

The city of Los Altos recently received a national award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association.

The award program assists state and local governments in extracting information from their comprehensive annual financial reports to produce reports specifically designed to be readily accessible and easily understandable to the general public and other interested parties without a background in public finance.

Noteworthies: Local to be interviewed on topic of domestic violence

Ruth Patrick, founder and director of the Los Altos-based WomenSV, is scheduled to be interviewed on the topic of domestic violence on “Megyn Kelly Today” Monday. Patrick will be interviewed with two WomenSV survivors. Her nonprofit agency focuses on domestic abuse in affluent communities. Launched and incubated by Los Altos Community Foundation, WomenSV has served more than 1,000 survivors since its inception in 2012.

Scouting News: LA teen receives Girl Scout awards


Los Altos resident Elizabeth Barnett, 14, recently received the Girl Scouts Silver Award and the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Barnett is a member of Los Altos Girl Scout Troop 60321, under the leadership of Leslie Carmichael, Kim Donovan and Judy Zellers.

Scouting News: Troop 87 Scout earns Eagle rank


A member of the Mountain View Buddhist Temple-sponsored Boy Scout Troop 87 recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouts.

Paul D. Young of Sunnyvale, son of Renee and Rick Young, served under the leadership of Scoutmaster Jeff Sato. He began his Scouting career as a 5-year-old Tiger Cub in Pack 462, transferred to Pack 87 and continued up the ranks to achieve the Arrow of Light – the highest Cub Scout award – before bridging to Troop 87.
