Scouting News: 3 new Eagle Scouts join Troop 37's ranks

Los Altos Boy Scout Troop 37 recently honored three members for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in Boy Scouting.

The new Eagle Scouts organized and led a community service project, held various troop leadership positions and completed at least 21 merit badges.

Service News: LA woman graduates from boot camp


Suh

Private First Class Jessica Suh, 18, of Los Altos graduated from U.S. Marine Corps boot camp at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina, Jan. 25.

Suh successfully completed 13 weeks of intensive basic training as one of approximately 70 recruits in Training Platoon 4003. While in recruit training, Suh mastered skills as squad leader, expert marksman and knowledge recruit.

Scouting News: Camp Taylor benefits from Scout's project

James Pampeyan, a Boy Scout from Troop 33 in Los Altos, last summer led a team of volunteers in building an archery range for Camp Taylor, a Modesto camp for children with congenital heart defects.

Pampeyan, who was born with hypoplastic right heart syndrome, a condition where the heart only has one ventricle, has attended Camp Taylor for the past 13 years.

Scouting News: Local Scouts programs now enrolling girls

As of early November, more than 148 girls registered to join more than 20 local Cub Scout packs, or approximately one-half of local Cub Scout units.

The numbers should rise, as more packs are currently transitioning to the new Family Scouting model and recruiting girls ages 5-11.
