Noteworthy: Resident recognized by Guide Dogs for the Blind

Terri Sachs of Los Altos was recently recognized for raising a puppy for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Sachs, a member of the organization’s Puppy Raising Club Midpeninsula of Palo Alto, trained Nation, a black labrador retriever. She presented the dog to Crystal Hollenbeck during a May 12 “graduation” ceremony at the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus in San Rafael.

Scouting News: Troop 30 Boy Scouts earn Eagle rank

Eight Boy Scouts from Los Altos Troop 30 received their Eagle rank May 20.

The promotion to Eagle rank followed years of work on leadership, community service and personal development.

World War II U.S. Navy veteran and longtime Los Altos resident Dick Abbott, 95, showcases Adm. William A. Moffett’s Medal of Honor. The Navy awarded Moffett, after whom Moffett Field was named, the nation’s highest military honor in 1914, and a duplicate of his medal is now part of a new display at the Moffett Field Historical Society Museum.

Noteworthy: Surgeon lectures at Aging Face Course


Los Altos plastic surgeon Dr. Harry Mittelman served as guest lecturer at the Aging Face Course, held April 13 in Chicago. He presented a new operation he developed, the Horizontal Neck Lift.

The new technique addresses advanced aging of the lower neck.
