The California Library Association presented Santa Clara County Library District county librarian Nancy Howe with the Zoia Horn Award at its annual Awards Gala Nov. 10 at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara.

The Zoia Horn Intellectual Freedom Award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to advance intellectual freedom and to preserve free speech in an open society.

Service News : Son of Los Altos resident completes basic training


Frida

U.S. Air Force Airman First Class Ernest Frida graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas.

Frida completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

Scouting News: Troop 103 Boy Scouts earn Eagle rank

Boy Scout Troop 103, chartered by St. Simon Catholic Parish of Los Altos, held an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony Aug. 11 at Fremont Hills Country Club to recognize four new Eagle Scouts.

Eagle Scout is the highest recognition in Boy Scouting.

Scouting News: Troop 37 honors new Eagle Scouts

Los Altos Boy Scout Troop 37 recently honored Justin Kasso and Simon Burdick for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. The Eagle distinction is the highest rank in Boy Scouts, requiring at least 21 merit badges and completion of a community service project.

For his Eagle project, Kasso designed and built a four-sided information kiosk at Covington School. He is a junior at Los Altos High School.
