Los Altos Troop 30 Boy Scout William Muliawan of Los Altos Hills is helping the homeless for his Eagle Project.

Muliawan, a junior at St. Francis High School, plans to collect enough supplies to assemble 200 hygiene kits by Oct. 10. Muliawan will donate the kits to Community Services Agency in Mountain View for distribution to the nonprofit organization’s homeless clients.

According to Muliawan, he got the idea from hygiene kits assembled during Compassion Week, an annual week of service in which local churches conduct community outreach through a variety of projects.

“We take hygiene for granted,” he said. “Given the current state of our world, it’s necessary to provide the homeless with these supplies.”

Hygiene kits include masks and hand sanitizer, as well as soap, shampoo, combs and brushes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, underwear and tarps.

Muliawan is doing community outreach for hygiene kit materials and cash donations, through a GoFundMe page

After collecting supplies, he plans to enlist volunteer help to assemble the kits.
