Noteworthy: Parade association holds potluck

Members of the Festival of Lights Parade Association assembled recently for a potluck. Organizers are busy with plans for this year’s parade, scheduled Nov. 26 in downtown Los Altos.

“Our focus this year is renovating Santa’s Float,” said volunteer Nancy Schneider. “We have enough funds to provide the reindeer with new antlers. ... We are also giving Santa a new bag with toys as well as a redesigned sleigh. Next year we hope to do a more complicated project of redoing the structure of the float.”

According to Schneider, September is the association’s fund- raising month.

“We have just sent out a direct-mail piece asking for money and hope people will go on our website at losaltosparade.org and donate,” she said. “They can specify ‘Santa’s Float’ if they would like to be part of that project. The float is 20 years old and has been a favorite of generations of paradegoers.”

In the meantime, as of last week, parade organizers were still without a place to store and put on costumes, despite numerous attempts to reach out to property owners.
