Letters to the editor: Negative campaigning, candidate donations

Negative campaigning has no place in Los Altos

I was shocked and upset to see that divisive attack politics have emerged in Los Altos. It is bad enough that we are subjected to this in our national politics.

King Lear’s paid advertisement, “The Silent Threat in this City Council Election,” has crossed the line, in my humble opinion. Negative advertising and comments create an atmosphere of distrust and division. Let’s be respectful and mature in evaluating the candidates running for city council.

Note to all Los Altos residents: Please avoid negative campaigning. Just tell us why you support a candidate and what you like about his or her platform. Let’s keep Los Altos the friendly city that we love.

Website details candidates’ donations

With a very divisive election just a few weeks away, the values of our local candidates are more important than ever. Much can be learned by looking at who our local candidates have supported with their cash donations.

All federal donations since 2000 by the current city council candidates can be viewed at bit.ly/LosAltosCCDonations.

I encourage all voters to take a look – what you find may be very surprising!
