Jane and Joseph Fuchs of Los Altos celebrated their 50th anniversary Aug. 18 with family and friends at a local restaurant.
They were married Aug. 17, 1968, at Los Altos United Methodist Church.
“After a total of six hours during three experiences over a span of two years, we fell in love and became engaged on the seventh hour and married seven months later,” Jane said.
Jane and Joseph were born one year apart at Stanford Hospital and grew up in Los Altos. They attended Covington Junior High and Los Altos High, and San Jose State College. Joseph majored in fine arts and English, Jane in nursing.
Their lives have centered on education and the fine arts. After serving in the Army, Joseph re-entered San Jose State and earned teaching credentials in art and English. Beginning in 1970, he taught art at Woodside High School, then taught English at Menlo-Atherton High for 32 years.
He enjoyed a parallel career as an oil painter, with Jane managing his shows. Jane worked at Stanford Hospital until the birth of their daughter, and later worked part-time as an English tutor.
The couple has traveled a great deal. They lived in Italy for six months in the early 1980s and for another six months in the 1990s. They also traveled to England, Scotland, France, Greece and Turkey.
