Myrtle and Lloyd Lettis of Mountain View celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary Sunday with a gathering for family and friends hosted by their children in the couple’s home of 66 years.
The couple met Feb. 2, 1941, while students at UC Berkeley. Lloyd earned a degree in political science, and Myrtle graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a double major in mathematics and economics.
They were married Feb. 2, 1943, while Myrtle was in the midst of finals. Lloyd reported for duty with the U.S. Air Force two days later.
After World War II, Lloyd worked at his father’s orchard, then as a telephone engineer at Lenkurt Electric before retiring in 1977.
Myrtle served eight years on the Santa Clara Library Commission and represented the Los Altos area when the Woodland Branch Library was conceived and built. She volunteered in local schools, served as president of the PTA and was a Boy Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader.
The couple have traveled to more than 60 countries.
The Lettises have four children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
