Bill and Mary Ann Schatz of Los Altos recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at Mary Ann’s sister and brother-in-law’s home in La Jolla.
The couple’s two sons, daughter-in-law, five grandchildren, granddaughter-in-law, two great-grandchildren and other family members joined them at the party. The celebration began with champagne presented by Southwest Airlines on the flight to San Diego and ended with fireworks in the distance from Sea World.
Bill and Mary Ann met as sophomores at Purdue University, married in South Bend, Ind., after graduation, honeymooned at Lake Michigan and the Edgewater Beach Hotel in Chicago, and then drove along Route 66 to Southern California, where Bill attended grad school at Cal Tech and Mary Ann taught homemaking and later photography.
They raised their sons in Tarzana. Bill served as a scoutmaster and worked as a rocket scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. In 1982, they moved to Los Altos, where Bill was employed by Ford Aerospace/Space Systems Loral until his retirement.
