Several Girl Scouts from Los Altos area Service Unit 608 were honored Jan. 24 during a virtual awards tea ceremony. Cadette Troop 61025, led by Amy Mendenhall of Los Altos, hosted the event. The Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouts, is earned by only 5.4% of eligible Scouts. Marie Godderis and Anooshkha Shetty received recognition for earning their Gold Awards at the ceremony. Both are members of Girl Scout Troop 60321 and seniors at Los Altos High School.
To earn the Gold Award, Godderis completed a project titled Bringing Healthy Smiles to Children in Uganda. She conducted a toothbrush drive, developed her own curriculum and executed a three-week, in-person project in Uganda during the summer of 2019.
Shetty’s project, No More Child Trafficking, spread awareness of child trafficking. She gave a TEDx talk, “Fight for Our Children,” participated in radio programs and Spotify podcasts, wrote for publications, delivered global school presentations and conducted citywide workshops in California and South India, reaching more than 6,500 people with her message.
