Ban sales and use of gas-powered blowers

We want to thank Assemblymember Marc Berman for authoring and getting his Assembly Bill 1346 passed. This bill bans the sale of gas-powered gardening equipment, including gas-powered leaf blowers, in California by Jan. 1, 2024.

Hopefully, other states will follow our lead and do the same.

Unfortunately, the bill bans the sale of these air- and noise-polluting monsters, but not their use.

Antiquated equipment can still be used until it dies. AB 1346 is great, but it does not go far enough.

Many communities in California, including Los Altos, have totally banned the use of gas-powered leaf blowers, the big polluter.

The discussions about addressing the environment and air quality are just discussions until we have of ban in sales and use.

Let’s go for it.

Accountability policy receives thumbs-up

Kudos to the Los Altos City Council for recently adopting the accountability policy.

We believe adoption of this policy puts the city on the path of employing best practices. As we’ve said previously, we fervently hope this policy never has to be used, as we expect council members to adhere to the reasonable norms they’ve set for themselves.
