There's an 'Awakening' this weekend in Mtn. View

The Upstage Theater production of “Spring Awakening,” a rock musical that won eight Tony Awards, is scheduled 7:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

Set in late-19th century Germany, “Spring Awakening” tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of teenage sexuality. The play is based on its German counterpart, written by Frank Wedekind, and features music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater.

'Bridge' closure: Pear play runs through Sunday in MV

The Pear Theatre in Mountain View is scheduled to perform “A View from the Bridge” through Sunday.

Written by Arthur Miller and set in 1950s New York, the play tackles illegal immigration, jealousy born from fear and the dangers of acting on self-destructive impulse.

Cal Pops to perform 'Gold Standards' Sunday at Flint Center in Cupertino

California Pops Orchestra’s second concert of the year, “Gold Standards: Gershwin, Porter, Berlin and Friends,” is slated 3 p.m. Sunday at Cupertino’s Flint Center.

The orchestra – led by conductor Kim Venaas – will perform selections from the Great American Songbook. California Pops will play some of the most popular songs by Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen and many more composers.

Only a little more 'Little Princess'; play closes Saturday at Bus Barn

Los Altos Youth Theatre, in a joint production with the SF Shakespeare Festival, performs “The Little Princess” through Saturday at Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.

In “The Little Princess,” Sara Crewe comes from India to Miss Minchin’s boarding school in London. In this adaptation by Cynthia Mercati of the classic story by Frances Hodgson Burnett, Sara has to deal with mean girls, harsh teachers, tragedy and misery. But Sara is a gifted storyteller who can make the best of her situation. Her stories come from books and her excellent imagination.
