Proceeds from Smuin’s Class for a Cause next week to benefit Bay Area food bank

As part of its Zoom-based drop-in virtual classes, Smuin Contemporary Ballet has launched Class for a Cause, with all proceeds going toward “positively impacting issues and supporting important organizations in the community,” according to a press release from the dance company.

“We want to use our art to continue to positively impact issues that are important to our community,” Smuin ballet master Amy London said in the release.

The next Class for a Cause, titled “Heels for Meals,” is scheduled 5 p.m. Jan. 22 via Zoom. Cassidy Isaacson will teach students to put on the Ritz at home in a session that combines elements of jazz, ballroom, salsa and contemporary dance.

Like Smuin’s other virtual classes, it is offered on a sliding scale of $8-$20. Proceeds from Isaacson’s class will be donated to the San Francisco/Marin Food Bank.

Students must register 30 minutes in advance to receive a Zoom link to participate in any of Smuin’s virtual classes, which will be offered through February.
