Peninsula Youth Theatre this weekend is set to perform “Brief Interviews with Internet Cats,” the second online production in its Stories on Stage program.
Shows via Zoom are slated 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday. A live talk-back with the cast and creative team follows each show.
Written by Patrick Greene and directed by Caitlyn DeRouin, PYT’s outreach director, the play centers on celebrity interviewer Ian McWorthy and his guest list, which includes a veritable litter full of felines whose internet antics have catapulted them to fame. In this rapid-fire series of interviews, Ian uncovers the story behind Tuffy’s first dramatic foray into a cardboard box, learns what makes Nelson the Grouchy Cat so grouchy and contends with the diva-like antics of Kitty Boo Boo the Singing Cat and her entourage.
“The comedy is so great and all of the characters are really well-written,” DeRouin said. “It’s a hilarious show; the first time I read it, I couldn’t stop laughing out loud. Besides it being a good script, people should watch it for the performances. The kids are making such strong character choices.
This is a show for the entire family. There are jokes for kids and for adults, and you don’t have to be a cat-lover to get the humor.”
