TheatreWorks Silicon Valley is teaming with Hershey Felder Presents for a livestreamed performance of “Hershey Felder as George Gershwin Alone.”
Pianist, actor, playwright and director Felder is slated to perform the one-man musical live 5 p.m. Sunday on the stage at Teatro della Pergola in Florence, Italy.
Adapted from the stage play directed by Joel Zwick – with book by Felder – the show tells the story of American songwriter George Gershwin, who composed several hit songs in the early 1900s before his death at age 38.
“Alone” shares the composer’s life, including his partnership with his brother, lyricist Ira Gershwin. It incorporates songs from the hits “Fascinating Rhythm,” “I Got Rhythm,” “’S Wonderful” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” to excerpts from his musicals “Porgy and Bess” and “An American in Paris,” along with a complete performance of his opus “Rhapsody in Blue.”
Stefano DeCarli and Felder direct.
Felder has also created shows about composers Claude Debussy, Fryderyk Chopin, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Liszt, Leonard Bernstein, Irving Berlin and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. His solo shows have been staged across America, including at TheatreWorks.
Access to the livestream of “Alone” is free for TheatreWorks subscribers and $55 per household for everyone else, with the proceeds supporting the theater company.
Ticketholders will have access to a recording of the production for 72 hours after the livestream; TheatreWorks subscribers will have access to the recording for a month.
