TheatreWorks Silicon Valley’s world premiere production of a new musical version of Jane Austen’s novel “Pride and Prejudice” is slated to run through Jan. 4 at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.

Although “Pride” has been musicalized in the past, director Robert Kelley said this rendition – featuring book, music and lyrics by Paul Gordon – “is very exciting and special.”

Justin Mortelliti stars as Mr. Darcy and Mary Mattison plays Elizabeth Bennet; both actors are making their TheatreWorks debuts. Mattison believes her character “will resonate with audiences and women especially today.”

The Bennet sisters are played by Sharon Riet- kerk (Jane), Melissa WolfKlain (Mary), Tara Kostmayer (Lydia) and Chanel Tilghman (Kitty). The cast also includes Christopher Vettel (as patriarch Mr. Bennet), Travis Leland (Mr. Bingley), Monique Hafen Adams (Miss Caroline Bingley), Taylor Crousore (Mr. Wickham), Dani Marcus (Charlotte Lucas) and Brian Herndon (Mr. Collins).

Performances of “Pride” are slated 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 and 7 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets are $30-$100.
