Los Altos Stage Company’s production of “Miracle on 34th Street: A Live Musical Radio Play” opened last week and is slated to run through Dec. 22 at Bus Barn Theater, 97 Hillview Ave.
The holiday classic is retold in the tradition of a live 1940s-era radio broadcast, including live onstage sound effects, advertisements, original music and popular holiday tunes.
A man calling himself Kris Kringle fills in for an intoxicated Santa in Macy’s annual Thanksgiving Day parade and is soon appearing regularly at the chain’s main store in midtown Manhattan. When Kringle surprises customers and employees alike by claiming that he really is Santa Claus, it leads to a court case to determine his mental health and authenticity.
The cast of seven comprises Vanessa Alvarez, Kenneth Bos- well, Bill C. Jones, Venice Ella Mayor, Mary Melnick, Bryan Moriarty and Daniel Zafer-Joyce.
Allie Bailey directs. She also directed last season’s “Into the Woods.” The creative team includes Brett Carlson (scenic designer), Karen Law (assistant director/choreographer), Benjamin Belew-Skaguchi (music director), Michael Stahl (vocal director), Melissa Sanchez (costume designer), Carina Swanberg (lighting designer), Gary Landis (sound designer) and Janice Nimer (properties designer).
