Stepping Out

TheatreWorks' 'Steps' marches on at downtown Mountain View venue

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley’s production of “The 39 Steps” is set to run through Sept. 15 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, 500 Castro St.

“Steps” began as an adventure novel published in 1915 by John Buchan. Alfred Hitchcock adapted the novel for film in 1935. TheatreWorks’ spoof of the silver-screen classic hurtles a notorious fugitive and a breathtaking blonde from a London music hall to Scotland’s most remote highlands, crawling with devious spies. With a mysteriously murdered agent, a wicked plot to destroy England and a race against the clock to stop it, this show is a tribute to the master’s most beloved films.

Directed by award-winning and longtime TheatreWorks director Leslie Martinson, “Steps” features four actors playing 139 roles. The cast includes Lance Gardner, Annie Abrams, Cassidy Brown and Ron Campbell.

Performances are slated 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, 2 and/or 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 and 7 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets are $30-$100.
