Stepping Out

LASC's 'Grapes' out of season after Sunday's matinee show

The Los Altos Stage Company production of “The Grapes of Wrath” is slated to close Sunday at Bus Barn Theater.

The play is based on Frank Galati’s stage adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel published 80 years ago. Set in the 1930s, the story follows the Joad family as they travel from Oklahoma to California to escape the ravages of the Dust Bowl. Fiercely proud but reduced to poverty, volatile young Tom Joad grows increasingly impatient with the intolerance and exploitation the family encounters on their journey.

Award-winning Bay Area director Jeffrey Lo helms the production.

The 18-member cast includes Joe Antonicelli, Lawrence-Michael C. Arias, Jack Barrett, Ross Briscoe, Joe Cascasan, Michael Champlin, Seton Chiang, Caitie Clancey, Carolyn Ford Compton, April Culver, Jorge Luis Diaz, Alexander Draa, Josiah Frampton, Gary Landis, Katie Maupin, Judith Miller, Heather Mae Steffen and Todd Wright.

Performances are scheduled 8 p.m. today through Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $20-$38.
