Los Altos Stage Company presents Frank Galati’s stage adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel “The Grapes of Wrath,” which opened last week and is slated to run through May 5 at Bus Barn Theater.
Steinbeck’s book, published 80 years ago, is considered a classic piece of Americana. Set in the 1930s, the story follows the Joad family as it travels from Oklahoma to California to escape the ravages of the Dust Bowl. Fiercely proud but reduced to poverty, volatile young Tom Joad grows increasingly impatient with the intolerance and exploitation the family encounters on their journey.
Jeffrey Lo directs the production, supported by Christopher Fitzer (scenic design), Melissa Sanchez (costume design), Mia Kumamoto (lighting design), Lana Palmer (sound design and music direction) and Ting Na Wang (properties design).
The 18-member cast includes Joe Antonicelli, Lawrence-Michael C. Arias, Jack Barrett, Ross Briscoe, Joe Cascasan, Michael Champlin, Seton Chiang, Caitie Clancey, Carolyn Ford Compton, April Culver, Jorge Luis Diaz, Alexander Draa, Josiah Frampton, Gary Landis, Katie Maupin, Judith Miller, Heather Mae Steffen and Todd Wright.
Performances are scheduled 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays.
Tickets are $20-$38.
