Schola performs 'Carmina' Sunday

Choral group Schola Cantorum Silicon Valley brings back “Carmina Burana” for a performance scheduled 3 p.m. Sunday at Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave.

It features text from a collection of 13th-century poems written by Bavarian monks that celebrate the joys of nature, love, lust and drinking.

“Audiences seek out ‘Carmina Burana’ because it has beautiful tunes and catchy rhythms. The piece is fun for everybody,” Schola Cantorum Music Director Gregory Wait said. “And it’s well-known. The opening chorus has even been appropriated for commercials and movies, and played by marching bands at football games.”

Tickets are $28, free for students 25 and under.
