Stepping Out

'Bullets' begins at Foothill

Showgirl Olive (Jocelyn Pickett, left) dreams of acting on Broadway in David’s (Adam Cotugno, center) play, thanks to her doting mobster boyfriend Nick (Steve Repetti, right) in Foothill Music Theatre’s “Bullets Over Broadway The Musical.”

Foothill Music Theatre’s production of “Bullets Over Broadway The Musical” is scheduled to run Thursday through March 17 in Los Altos Hills.

In the madcap comedy, a young playwright finally gets his play produced on Broadway, only to discover there’s a catch: the mobster putting up the funds wants a vehicle for his ditzy, talent-free girlfriend. Throw in an aging diva, dancing gangsters and a bevy of chorus girls, and comedic capers ensue.

Adam Cotugno plays playwright David Shayne; Steve Repetti is mob boss Nick Valenti; Jocelyn Pickett plays his girlfriend, Olive Neal; Carla Befera portrays diva Helen Sinclair; and Allie Townsend plays Ellen, Shayne’s longtime girlfriend. Ensemble cast members include Annika Diekgers, John Duarte, David Evans, Dieyla Dopp, Katelin Foley, Jacob Gunter, Kimberly Kay, Kayvon Kordestani, Tim Lynch, M.C. Mendonca, Joey Montes, Nick Nakamura, Amanda Nguyen and Mikey Wieland.

Milissa Carey directs the musical, based on the hit film of the same name by Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath. It features jazz music from the 1920s – including “Let’s Misbehave” and “Up a Lazy River” – gangster costumes and several dance numbers.

Shows are set for 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays in the Lohman Theatre at Foothill College, 12345 S. El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills.

Tickets are $12-$36. Parking is $3; student lots 1 and 8 provide the easiest access to the theater.
